Students who have been in the IELP program for 28 weeks in a row can apply for a legal break. During the legal break, students may legally stay in the United States without taking classes for one session (seven weeks). Students must return to class the following session.
While you are on an authorized legal break you are eligible to remain in the U.S. or travel abroad.
See Application for a Legal Break to apply.
If a student decides to not return to the IELP program, they must decide to either:
- transfer to another school
- the new school's classes must start within five months of the last class at Temple University
- prepare to depart the United States
- students must depart the U.S. within 60 days of the last class at Temple University
If students fail to inform Temple University of their intentions, the students' SEVIS record will be terminated. The student will no longer be legally present in the United States. It is important that all students take every and all steps to avoid this by updating Temple University.
