Effect of use of CPT on eligibility for OPT

There is no regulatory limit on either the number of times or the length of time a student may engage in either part- or full-time curricular practical training. This will be governed by the nature of the training and the requirements of the student's program. The regulations do not prohibit multiple, concurrent CPT employers.

No matter how many times or how long the part-time CPT is authorized, it doesn’t affect the student’s OPT eligibility. Full time CPT for less than 12 months does not affect OPT.

If full time CPT is authorized for 12 months, the student is not eligible for OPT
