The chart below indicates the estimated amount of time from when ISSS receives a complete H-1B application until the date that your Employee can begin working. Note that PP represents Premium Processing and RP indicates Regular Processing.

If Applicant is OUTSIDE the US, our office will mail the Original Approval Notice along with a copy of the H-1B petition to the applicant abroad. Note that there are significant wait times at some US Embassies. Applicant then must apply for H-1B visa stamp at US Embassy unless visa-exempt. Applicant may not enter the US more than 10 days prior to the start date listed on the Approval Notice.

If the Applicant listed in an Initial H-1B Petition holds a valid nonimmigrant status INSIDE the USthe employee can begin working on the start date listed on the H-1B Petition and our office has received the ORIGINAL Approval Notice.

Extension H-1B Petition
Provided USCIS receives the H-1B Extension Petition prior to the employee's current H-1B Approval Notice End Date, the H-1B may work for 240 days beyond the expiration date on the current Approval Notice.  Travel outside the US may be complicated during this waiting period. Contact ISSS for further information as Premium Processing may be necessary.

Amendment H-1B Petition
The employee may not begin working in the new position until USCIS receives our H-1B Amendment petition. Contact HR/Payroll Management for more information once H petition is submitted.  Premium Processing is likely needed if H-1B must travel outside the US while the petition is pending with USCIS.

Transfer H-1B Petition
The employee may not begin working with Temple University until USCIS receives our petition. Contact HR/Payroll Management for more information once H petition is submitted.  Travel outside the US may be complicated during this waiting period.  Contact ISSS for further information as Premium Processing may be necessary
