In an effort to increase its screening and vetting of individual beneficiaries, USCIS may request that a beneficiary of a pending H-1B petition appear for a "biometrics" appointment at a designated USCIS Application Support Center for the collection of a digital picture, signature and fingerprints. Beneficiaries who are selected for a biometrics appointments should receive an appointment letter from USCIS with further details and instructions. If an individual is selected for this additional step, ISSS will normally be notified of this requirement by USCIS as well. If you cannot attend the scheduled appointment meeting, USCIS indicates that you should request your appointment be rescheduled before your original appointment date and time.

Currently, USCIS appears to require this additional step for a small number of beneficiaries only. If you receive a biometrics appointment letter related to a pending H-1B petition, please notify your ISSS adviser as soon as possible.
